The objective is to allow a better understanding of circular bioeconomy (management of renewable resource) from a theoretical and an applied perspective. The course will include economics and marketing issues (feedstock procurement and raw materials involved in bio-based production, public perception), environmental issues and legal issues (end of waste). The program addresses bioeconomy issues in interdisciplinary views and aims to bring students and teachers from various countries and fields of work together to discuss and talk about actual topics and problems of bioeconomy.
The course is an one week of lectures (including entrepreneurial testimonials) for at least 4 hours per day, individual assignments (scientific documentation will be shared in a common e-library), teamwork (interdisciplinary students teams to develop a project), presentation of projects developed (projects will be assessed by the teaching staff).
Teaching staff will be composed by academics, policy makers and industrial experts (including chemists, engineers, biotechnologists, and managers).
The course is part of the EU research and innovation funded project FORCE (Cities Cooperating for Circular Economy), which aims at minimising the leakage of resources from the linear economy and work towards a circular economy. Therefore, the course will focus on sustainable urban and industrial processes with a focus on two organic waste streams (wood and food).
The course will be taught by University of Genova and Ticass in close collaboration with public and private bodies in charge of organic waste management and valorisation in Italy.
During the course students from different countries and with different scientific backgrounds will work together in mixed groups to develop projects tackling circular bioeconomy issues (supported by dedicated tutors). Thanks to the collaboration and active engagement of JRC Ispra and Ricibo project, real case studies will be presented, to develop original solutions and project concept to be presented and discussed with representatives of the two organizations.

WHO?
Third year Students of bachelor degree, Master Students, Graduates and Master Graduates, PhD Students with an affinity for Circular Economy in the context of waste prevention, reuse, repair as well as collection at city level. Candidates are welcome from a variety of disciplines, including chemistry, environmental studies, engineering, etc. It is a great opportunity for enthusiastic students from different countries and diverse backgrounds to participate in an interdisciplinary course focused on developing an economy based on sustainable feedstock and zero carbon emission.

IN ADDITION
2 ECTS
For obtaining 2 ECTS students will be asked to participate in at least 70% of the lectures of the e-learning course, in groups prepare their conceptual solution idea and present it on the last day of the course and prepare a short individual paper (2-3 pages) after the course ends.
